Rosario Dawson Studied STAR WARS Animated Shows Over and Over Again to Get Ahsoka Right

Rosario Dawson has been a joy to watch in the role of Ahsoka in the live-action Star Wars shows, and right now, we’re all waiting for her solo series to be released, which was teased at Star Wars Celebration this past weekend. I got to watch the teaser footage, and there’s no doubt that fans are going to freakin’ flip out! You can read all about it here.

While at the convention, Dawson talked about the series and how they've never lost sight of the characters' animated history and she continues to look at specific frames of animation for inspiration, especially when it comes to her fighting style. She said:

"Over and over and over again, yes, freeze-framing. I think some of my favorite stuff is actually, so we work with this amazing stunt coordinator, Ming, who is a Jedi like literally. She was taken into a temple at nine years old and from nine to 19 only saw her family once a year, so she was basically a youngling, and then trained in martial arts for 10 full years, and that's who's training us in Wushu and all kinds of things. And I will take freeze frames and clips from the shows and show her and be like, 'Ahsoka can do this. Can we can you train me to do this? And she's like, ‘That is not physically possible. that's an animation, but this we can do.’ And it's been really, really, really amazing. So thank goodness for all of that research and history that we get to play off of."

It’s pretty awesome that Dawson is personally trying to stay true to the character and as close to the animated version of her as she possibly can. Then, of course, you have Star Wars mastermind Davie Filoni developing the story and series, and this is a story that he’s been wanting to tell for a long time. There’s no way he’s going to lead fans astray.

Dawson credited Ahsoka fan art created by BossLogic for her being cast in the role. She was gunning for this role for a long time and explained that art helped her get into the minds of Favreau and Filoni so that when they were thinking of who to cast, they would think of her.

She went on to say: "It's because of people like you. They had actually drawn all these more images of me as the character which is mind-blowing. It's just been such a thrill and honor to bring this character to life and to feel the energy of everyone wanting to see her come to life."

I’m a huge Ahsoka fan, and I’m totally pumped up for her future in the live-action Star Wars series! They will also tell more stories from her past in the new animated series Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi.
